High Notes

In the past few days, my mom and I have discovered the show Hoarding: Buried Alive. It has definitely created some cleaning motivation in our household. My mom is a neat freak, but I on the other hand.. am a pack rat.
The past few days I have been doing lots of cleaning! I can actually see the back of my closet and the top of my dresser. Those are huge improvements for me!
This little jacket is something I came across in my closet. I wouldn't say it's been forgotten, I've just been holding onto it waiting for the right outfit to wear it with. That's weird, right? I searched forever for the perfect military inspired jacket - bought it - and just kept it in the back of my closet.

I have made some big steps in the last year. Each month I get rid of a big box or two of my old stuff that gets donated to a thrift store. I think what stumps me most when cleaning is when I have a large stack of papers. I can easily hold onto something if it holds a sentimental value, you know? Everything else (ie, clothes, knick knacks, etc) means very little to me.

Hopefully if I get a lot done now, I won't have to do any spring cleaning! ;)

Outfit details - Striped top, $7.99 (sizeappeal.com old) - Jacket, $4 (thrifted) - Scarf, swapped - Hat, from my house - Jeans, $12.50 (F21 old) - Boots, $15 (K-Mart old) - Gloves, Christmas presents from years ago

I like skirts and dresses better, but you look cute in those trousers ready for the snow.

Not weird at all. I actually just went through every item in my closet and I re-discovered some items I'd totally forgotten about and some others that I remembered were super special. Glad you've found the right time to wear your jacket. Looks lovely on you :)

I did a ton of winter cleaning a few weeks ago. It felt so great to giveaway loads of stuff i don't need. I also hold onto certain clothing items with the intent to wear them with the perfect outfit. I've been holding on to some clothes for years, but then that one perfect day comes.

Cute jacket btw. So cute!

Oh goodness, I can't watch hoarders. Every time I see a commercial for it there are a ton of bugs, or mice or something, and it just kind of freaks me out haha.
Anyway, this is a lovely outfit! That hat is perfect!

Good to know I'm not the only one! It is fun discovering things in my closet. It's like buying something new all over again.

I tend to hold on to papers/drawings/notes and different stuff like that too. My only problem with cleaning out my closet is the "once-every-three-month" thrifting trip we do. So, if I clean out my closet, I won't have anything new for 3 months! I've been through this so many times but it can still either be a cleansing process or a total disaster. I love your outfit so much! It is soooo flattering on you omg!

Thanks!
That's cool those opportunities have come up where you can wear the items you've been holding onto! Typically I give my items a 2 year limit (usually the fancy clothes like sequins and dresses) and if there time hasn't come by then, then they are outta my closet!

Yeah, some episodes have been pretty gross. Like when people hoard animals and trash. Ewww! I just close my eyes when they start getting close-ups. lol
And thanks! :)

Oh boy, I thrift quite a bit. Maybe 3 times a month! haha
I think it's good that you have such a limit because then you won't be bringing in as much. (or not.. I don't know your habits.)
I guess I've just been going to second hand stores for so long, that the novelty of them has kind of worn off. I just see them as cheap places to pick up the basics. I never go crazy and think "I need a whole collection of ceramic cows!". So I suppose that even though I go frequently, I know not to over-buy.. because then I'd up end on Hoarders. lol

It seems that paper items stump a lot of people! I just found birthday cards from my 16th-20th birthday and I just look at them and think "why do I need you?!". It's ridiculous.
